Good News for RunCloud API Users

Thank you for all the feedback we’ve received over the past few weeks.

After reviewing both versions of our API library and noticing patterns, we’ve decided to make some important updates to our API offering.

If you’re currently using our APIs (or are planning to) and have read the recent email about the upcoming changes to our pricing plans – here’s what you need to know:

  1. API V3 will be available on our Business and Enterprise plans.

  2. API V2 will remain available for now, but we plan to phase it out by the end of October 2025 or December 2025. This gives you plenty of time to transition and update.

  3. API access will align with the features available in your plan. For example, if a feature is exclusive to the Enterprise plan, its API will only work for Enterprise users, not Business users.

  4. We’ve increased API call limits for Business users from 10 calls/min to 60 calls/min, while the monthly cap will stay at 10k.

  5. Enterprise users will retain the same limits of 300 calls/min and a 400k monthly cap.

I also want to highlight that we have upcoming plans to introduce agency-specific, exclusive API endpoints and webhooks, following the same plan-based access rules as outlined in point #3 above.

I understand that this means if you’re currently using our API & on a Pro plan, this is likely not the news you were hoping for – for the time being, this is the most we can offer. For those of you who are currently on a Pro plan and using the API, I hope that you’re able to see this as an opportunity to upgrade to the Business plan with a heavily discounted renewal offer for the next 3 years. In any case, your access to API V2 will continue until the end of your current billing cycle.

For those concerned about the transition, I assure you it’s simple and not a hassle. There are only two key changes you’ll need to make:

  1. Change the root path from rc-api-url/v2 to rc-api-url/v3.
  2. Update your credentials and authentication.

Additionally, API V3 may have new parameters, so please review the documentation to ensure your setup is updated accordingly.

That’s it! While it’s a bit of work, V3 offers more parameters and options to enhance your setup, so it’s worth the effort.

You can sneak peek and compare the API documentation here:

If you want staging access to test the endpoints join our beta testing program, stay tuned for our next email. This email will be sent to all current API users, and you’ll be able to request staging access through it.

I hope this brings some positivity towards the upcoming changes. Thank you again for actively sharing your feedback. Our goal is to ensure you’re happy and continue to grow with us.

Ok now I am confused. So Business plan have access to the API or not?

Also, I received an e-mail saying I exceed the new limits which is not true. I only have 9 servers and I am not using the API at all. I only used once and then stopped because it was not worth for our case.

And with the new API maybe it will be worth but just to save us time. If we would use it to provide automated hosting or something like that I wouldn’t mind go Enterprise later.

Ivo,

I’ve just verified, and our system shows active API calls from your account. To clarify, yes—API v3 is included in the Business Plan, as mentioned in my post.

This email was sent to all our API users, even those with just one call, as well as those exceeding the new limits, to reassure you that there’s no need to worry—the new limits will only apply at the end of your current term. It’s a good idea to lock in the yearly plan to extend your usage time and benefit from the exclusive renewal deal for the next 3 years.

I hope you’re able to make the most of it.

I was a bit worried and I already contacted support cause I also have 9 servers and we did not made any API calls in long time. Like very long time.

So me “exceeding” the limit got me scared what the hell is happening and if someone did not break into my account / API.

Pavel,

I’ve just reviewed your ticket as well. We’ve tried to simplify things as much as possible, but I understand how some details can be misinterpreted.

According to our data, we do see some active API calls. We sent this email to all users, even those with just one API call, to make sure everyone is informed. If you’re using the API or exceeding limits, there’s no need to worry.

Regarding the server limit, if you take another look, we used “AND/OR” to clarify that either one condition is true or both.

Hello,

I contacted support and they said I had 600 api calls. I don’t use the runcloud API, I simply connect to my server by using the recommended connection method. The toggle for the Developer API was on, I have now turned it off as I don’t use it.

I only have 2 servers and do not have the resources to upgrade to the business plan, should I be worried.

Many Thanks

David

I also got the email and it states “According to our systems, your usage exceeds the new limits of your current plan”

But I don’t think I am. I only have a few servers. I use the API but no where near 60 calls/min. How can see my API usage?

I’m still a bit confused, this means people with essential or professional plan will not be able to use , for example, instawp integration since they use api ? and to continue using those integration we will need a business plan ?

Hi Everyone,

First, I’d like to apologize if our previous email communication caused any confusion. Our intentions were good, but we understand the message may not have come across clearly.

This update is being shared with all our API users (even those who made one API call) to keep everyone in the loop about the upcoming changes, including the extension and special arrangements we have in place. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you are exceeding the new limit.

If you’re currently on a yearly plan, rest assured that nothing will change for you until your current billing cycle ends. At that point, you’ll be able to review your needs and select the package that best fits your usage.

For those not already on a yearly plan, we’d recommend considering switching from monthly to yearly, as this will give you more time to adjust comfortably.

We’re committed to making this transition as smooth as possible and won’t be applying any new limits to your existing plan right away.

Hope this clears things up, and I appreciate your continued support.

no, sorry but it’s not clear.
What i can resume from your reply is exactly this:
when you will finish your current annual plan, to use runcloud API to connect server (for example instawp ) you will need a Business plan.
in other hands, it’s not about when it will happen, it’s about i will have to upgrade from 9 to 49$ per month only to have a server connected to instawp or other services.

so your all comunication, starting from the website price plan e all the mail received, is not clear at all, in my opinion

Fabio,

Yes, that is correct.

We have actually made this part clear in both our emails that API access will be exclusively available only with Business and Enterprise Plan effective October’24.

This applies to new users immediately but for the existing users, the change applies after the current term ends.

How about if I’m not using runcloud api but using for example hetzner API to connect to their servers?

David,

Our Server Provisioning through provider’s API feature will continue to work. Of course you can use your cloud provider’s APIs.
