8 Years of RunCloud: What’s Next

Sorry I’ve been quiet here. Blessed with a baby girl who’s turning 3 months this week. While I’m not completely off work, I’m making the most of daddy duty and finding a balance.

This month also marks 8 years for us.

What started as a small tool inside a web agency eventually turned into a SaaS - RunCloud. Today, RunCloud serves users in 120 countries, powering close to 100k servers and hosting around half a million applications.

The journey has been crazy, figuring out business alignment that works for us, how to stay sustainable, and not get distracted by competitors. We’ve always been committed to the long-term game.

We’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way and kept learning. That part never ends. But one thing we’ve stayed true to is building a strong, reliable product. Instead of chasing hundreds of features out of fear of competition, we’ve kept our focus on backend technology and stability. Every unique issue reported by our users has been a learning point, and we’ve worked to adapt and align with those use cases.

One big step forward has been API v3, part of our BuildWithRunCloud initiative. It allows you to create your own tools and workflows using our tech. Products like ZipWP and many custom panels built with our APIs are proof of how versatile the platform can be.

What’s Next:

:high_voltage: Arch Panel: For years we’ve talked about building a cPanel-like ecosystem. After multiple iterations, we restarted from scratch earlier this year to get it right. The Arch Panel is designed for resellers to build their own white-label hosting ecosystem in just a few steps. It’s taken longer than we expected, but once it’s out, it will be a big milestone. Based on the success, we also plan to launch a self-hosted version in the future. We’re even considering a CloudLinux partnership to support shared hosting, depending on demand.

:robot: AI Initiatives: We’re working towards giving you your own AI-powered System Administrator. More details soon. In the meantime, I’d love to hear what you would like to do with AI.

:rocket: RunCache Plugin: We’re getting ready to launch our RunCache plugin on the WordPress repo. This will make server-side caching available to everyone, even non-RunCloud users. For RunCloud users, it will replace the existing Hub plugin. If you’d like to beta test it, just drop a note in this thread.

I want to thank you all for trusting us, even when we’ve made mistakes. We’ve learned from them and keep improving. Your support has meant everything.

Also, a quick reminder about our birthday offer:

  • One-time 40% off on your existing plan or upgrades

  • 75% off on the Enterprise Plan (this stacks on top of the 50% yearly discount, making it an additional 25%). This recurring discount can be grandfathered.

Check your email for details.

I’m always open to feedback and suggestions… they help us grow.

Hey @raj,

I’m wondering what exactly the “something special” was or is that was announced in your newsletter on September 19? I haven’t received any further news or information between September 22 and 28.

Cheers
Mario

Hey @mario :waving_hand:

Sorry for the confusion here.

According to our email platform’s logs, it looks you did receive the follow-up email on September 27th, and we can see it was opened (though no links were clicked + open tracking is notoriously unreliable as a result of email clients blocking open tracking).

Due to the promotional nature of the copy of the campaign, i.e. discount, numbers, percentages used, it landed in “promotions” tab for lots of people.

And unfortunately, given the sheer number of users that received it within the span of a few hours (despite us limiting sending to a few thousand per hour), it’s likely that some messages were flagged as spam by certain providers.

Id like to see more features related to WordPress and server optimization.

There are still some WordPress/server related settings that could be single click:

  • Single click enable wp cron
  • Single click setup redis (for till kruss’s popular redis plugin)
  • Single click enable/disable debug log
  • Site disable option

Server optimization: More settings related to server optimization to Runcloud panel:

  • Innodb memory size etc.
  • Drop in Redis alternatives

@Arvoisa Thank you for the feedback.

I’ve now filed these in the feature requests category, attributed to you.

You can expect a response to each of them individually from me, but while you wait for that, please feel free to add extra details to help add any extra context to the requests:

For sure make a partnership with cloudlinux for doing this. Still cannot wait to get away from Cpanel…..

Hm, I never received the follow-up email either so I was never able to learn of the details. I checked spam too. Possible to have this email resent to me?
